I was just wondering if anybody knows if there were ever any plans for the stalker to have been somebody else. Frankie's reaction when she unmasks him makes it seem like it was somebody important. For it to then turn out to be Fax doesn't really seem to fit with her reaction. I know soaps often have the killer be somebody unimportant so that when the time comes to bring them to justice they're easily disposable, but I thought that maybe they might have considered having it be a major cast member, and then in the end got cold feet. I don't know.

Was Fax Newman always meant to be the Stalker who killed Frankie Frame?

I agree. I actually thought the killer was going to be Matthew Cory, as he was acting oddly at the time of the murders. Plus the actor who played him left the show around then, so I really thought it was going to be him, but the show just had Matthew leave town for a little bit and hired a new actor to play him. So I don't know if he was meant to be the killer and then the show chickened out or what, but I bet that's what happened.

All I can remember was that Fax whistled. Don’t recall what the character looked like. Do remember the long line of characters he took out, many that I absolutely loved (Frankie and Bridget immediately come to mind). Also who can forget the jaw-dropping scene and the tears that flowed afterwards. Don’t think I ever remember crying over a tv characters death as I did with Frankie. It was clear that NBC was letting TPTB take down the show and no long cared about it. I was so angry at how that storyline played out and angry that NBC also would just let another network take it.

I was in High School at the time and we didn't have a VCR yet, so I missed quite a bit of it. However I thought it was shocking as he was the Psychiatrist and here he was the deranged killer; so I would think that would shock Frankie Frame. I think now we are rather used to the Psychiatrists being worse then their patients; remember Brooke Shields playing a Psychiatrist on Nip/Tuck.

Speaking of Fax, anybody know actor Barry Sloane? He's currently starring in a new legal drama on NBC--I forget the name, and he played Aiden on Revenge? Anyway, I caught a glimpse of him the other day, and immediately Fax Newman popped in my head.
Frankie's murder breaks my heart to this day.

Killing Frankie off was a huge mistake and kind of led to the demise of the show. Originally it was supposed to be Donna who was killed and then they decided it would be Frankie or Paulina. The decision was made so the budget could be used to hire Robert Kelker Kelly again.
