yeah elena is a far cry from miss ellie..................
OK, I was disgusted that Cynthia Cidre is having Drew call Elena "Ellie" now.
I really hope it was a one of and that we don't have to sit through this again.
I have loved the writing on Dallas '12 thus far, however, I have been "stewing" about this all freakin' day (LOL) and had to get this off my chest.
Whew! Feel a bit better, however, CC had better not infringe upon that relatively sacred ground.
Barbara Bel Geddes was the one and only Ellie.
yeah elena is a far cry from miss ellie..................
It's a rare thing when we all here agree on everything but seems this is one most do see eye to eye on. At the risk of repeating I didn't like hearing Drew call his sister 'Ellie' one little bit.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Tulip reading this makes me once again wish you were on the writting staff my friend. When I first read Emma(before it was revealed for sure she'd be Ann&Ryland's daughter)was to be a love interest for both John Ross&Christopher I wasn't too thrilled. Now,knowing Emma's Harris&Annie's baby,I think I'd LOVE the idea Emma&John Ross. Not that I like the thought of Junior&Pamela breaking up cause I don't(I think they're FIRE incarnate lol)but the thought of how mama&Harris would react knowing their daughter is pregnant with a Ewing is priceless lol.
Seriously though IA with everything you've said about this 'Ellie' situation. If&when it comes a time for newDallas to have an Ellie it should be a Ewing offspring that's Miss Ellie's namesake, not Elena Ramos! Always good hearing your opinons&wonderful insights/thoughts my dear Tulip!
I didn't like it either........it was 'overstepping', to me.....
I don't see the big fuss
Eleanor was miss Ellie's full first name
and it sounds exactly how Elena sounds
and its not that out of context for her brother
To call his sister a shortened version of her name
people call me by another name all the time in my real life
Since Carmen was supposedly the Ewings' housekeeper for many years (even though we never saw her until 2012 - lol), maybe she named her daughter Elena after Miss Ellie because she admired Ellie a great deal. There's nothing wrong with that and I'd imagine Miss Ellie would be pleased and honored.
I can understand the use of a nickname. I give EVERYONE nicknames in my personal life, however, for me... This is different. For a TV show with such a rich history and a character who was the heart and soul of the show for years (Miss Ellie).... You don't use that name again as a prop for another character. Cidre and Co. could have chosen Drew simply calling Elena "E" or "Lena", however, she chose a name that synonymous with Dallas and Barbara Bel Geddes.
I guess I'd be OK with one of her great grandkids being called Ellie, however, it seemed a slap in the face of all Miss Ellie fans by using her name as a reference to Elena. To me it was character propping and trying too hard to get fans to like a character that (from the polls on this site and ultimatedallas) fans don't really care for.
This is a big misstep for me.
Okay, ya'll are not getting it, this is another way TPTB are trying to get you to understand that Elena is the one we, the viewers are suppose to be totally heads crazy for not Pamela.
I agree with you midwestdj, if she was going to have a nickname it should have been something like Lena, not Ellie.
^^ You can even but in if you don't agree with me!
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^I don't enjoy butting in there
I don't see it as a prop. I see it as honoring Miss Ellie. Guess we'll just have to "agree to disagree" on this one!
do you want my thoughts................i think because elenas not very popular they are trying to get the veiws to think of her as miss ellie, its not working, but i think thats what they were trying to do,and what to h&ll is drew calling that father of thiers,i dont think that guys playing with a full deck.....
thanks i couldnt figure out what he was saying, and july baby stay safe they say another storms coming
U see Elena is not popular amongst fans yet but give her time she may get a great storyline coming up which may win the fans over
She is the calm and kind hearted girl who been through a lot
and nobody can replace miss Ellie we know that or any other character to speak
we should accept Elena for her own character which I can't blame people at the moment for liking the least
in season 1 she was just in the love triangle and season 2 she hasn't had any storyline properly yet to be fair
i do not and will not compare her to Miss Ellie
she reminds me more of a Pamela Ewing type
I also will NEVER compare her to Miss Ellie. There is no comparison and that's why I feel it glaring that CC used Ellie to refer to Elena....

The use of the "Ellie" name is not only disrespectful to the original character but it is equally disrespectful to the fans of this show. While the goal is obviously to build a new fan base for this next generations of the Ewings, that would never (and could never) happen without the loyalty of the Classic show's fans. Yes, Miss Eliie's real name was Eleanor, but in 14 years, she was only referred as that on the very rare occasion and usually when a legal matter was being discussed. She was barely even referred to as Mrs. Ewing or, in later years, Mrs. Farlow- She WAS MISS ELLIE. Miss Ellie is more than a name and more than a character it represents the history and really the soul of this show- not because she was a nice little lady who poured coffee but because she was where it all began. When Jim Davis died, no one else was called "Jock" all of a sudden. In the Classic finale it is revealed that had JR never been born Ray would have named his son Jock- AFTER JOCK- Bobby would have named his daughter Ellie- AFTER MISS ELLIE- if the people who originated the show felt the need to justify the use of these names on new characters, then the very least this new team can do is either explain that Elena was named for Miss Ellie (although, if that were true and somehow the 2 had been close her willingness to drill on Southfork is even more questionable than before) or they need to drop it, and quickly. Cidre has said she understands and appreciates that Dallas fans are sensitive to showing respect for the characters and original themes, this is either the most idiotic oversight, or a terrible slap in our faces.
Don't mind it. Feels like a tribute to Miss Ellie. But a more worthy character could have gotten that nickname!
And no one will ever call Elena "Miss Ellie".
If there is another Ellie on this show it should be John Ross and Pams daughter
i wonder if they will have a baby and to make it intresting i bet blondie will probally get knocked up to
See I can see Pam getting pregnant and blondie going nuts going after Pam, and the baby while trying to get pregnant with John Ross's baby. The one thing that can truly spoil this for Emma is Pam becoming a mommy. Emma will go psycho blond and Pam will proably find out about her and John Ross which will make problems not only for Pam and John Ross but it could get Chris and John Ross feuding again.
I've been a fan of Jordana Brewster personally since the first Fast and Furious movie in 2001 (hey i'm an American male, what'd ya expect )....I definitely get that nicknames are used alot (and I use them with almost everybody in my own life)but on this show with this heritage, there is only ONE Ellie on Dallas and that is Miss Ellie Southworth Ewing....Hell even though Jock, J.R. and John-Ross all share the same first name, they all gave them their own separate nicknames/identities...they could've given Elena another nickname other than the one that's only reserved for our beloved Miss Ellie
Jeez, Ellie is a completely appropriate nickname for somebody named Elena, and a nickname that is way more likely to be used by someone she knew growing up, like a brother or a best friend. I would get it if they called her "Miss Ellie" but they didn't. Just "Ellie". Is General Hospital being disrespectful because they have a character named Ellie?

General Hospital would incur the same type of reaction from me if they had a random new character named "Lila" or "Mary Mae", and it wasn't clear that they were given that name (at least in part) in homage to the legendary matriarchal character that preceded them. If they had made it clear that Elena was given that name and the nickname "Ellie" in honor of Miss Ellie, then I know I wouldn't have much of an issue with that--especially since her mom has been such an apparently important part of the Ewing fam for years and years. But if they don't establish that, then no I don't want any newbie characters taking on the nickname of the character who was the foundation and pillar of Southfork and Dallas--Miss Ellie
The only way I could see it not being much of a to do is something like John Ross's kid being named Ellen as in part of his mamas name and they call the baby Ellie as a pet name. JMO
It's not Ellie, It's Elle that's what Caption says on my tv. It's not even spelled the same way not to mention Elle is short for Elena.
