I never really knew what to do with Ray. I loved him with Donna, however, I hated his "I'm not good enough" junk. It was SSOO repetitive. Year after year.
I liked his relationship with Jock and Bobby!
so what did we all think of Ray
i didnt like him at the start, but grew to like him after a while![]()

I loved Ray's relationship with Jock and Bobby, too, and later with Clayton. And after it was revealed that Ray was Jock's son (so no more sex with his niece), I loved his friendship with Lucy. They were always able to confide in each other and looked out for one another. I especially loved the time Lucy broke into his room and found the letters Donna had written him, explaining why she had to go back to Sam. Ray, being so stubborn, had never even opened the letters. It was Lucy, young as she was, who was instrumental in getting Ray and Donna back together, by telling him what was in the letters. That was a great scene and I'll always remember it.
midwest you got it,they were good together until they started writing this not good enough story crap.i really liked ray in the begining him and lucy, which they never mentioned after they found out they were related. Lol like we were stupid enough not to remember it.him and jenna was good ,remember the nut lady he helped and she tried killing him.i also liked the mickey storyline to bad they killed him off.
i liked his pairing with Donna
but not with Jenna Wade that much
and yes victor that psycho woman called Connie was a right nutcase!
i remember after he got stabbed by her, he left Dallas with Jenna
and there was nothing said about her this new season to Ray
i always found it intresting that ray was going to be wrote off the show and jr spoke up and said he wanted another brother.lol.to be mean to............
larry hagman said that in a interview one time,he also said when bobby was gone he was the one to go in and tell them to call him back,he said i dont care what it takes just get him back, did any one see the interview lh did 3 mos before he passsed with kelly its on you tube.
I always liked the way the writers made Ray Jock's son. It didn't come out of the blue. It was totally believable, IMO, because of the affinity they had for each other and the fact that Jock had become friends with Ray's mother during the war, which we knew from the beginning when they explained how Ray came to Southfork and eventually became foreman of the ranch. It made sense that Jock might have had an extra-marital relationship with his "friend", Margaret, while away from home during that crazy time. (It wasn't uncommon IRL.)
I agree, July Baby. It was completely believable - and the genesis of that story came from Larry Hagman. Steve Kanaly wanted to leave the show because there wasn't much happening with Ray, but Larry came up with the general idea of Ray being Jock's son to get Steve to stay (Larry said that Steve actually looked like he could be Jim Davis' son). And the problems that arose between Jock and Ellie grew naturally out of it. Not because of the affair, which Ellie had known about since Jock had come home from the war and had long forgiven him for. And not because of Ray himself - Ellie loved him like a son and told him in the following episode that she had known deep down (I liked the scene a few seasons later where Clayton's sister met the family and Ellie introduced JR, Bobby and Ray as "my sons"). But because she thought Jock was replacing Gary with Ray. I also liked that Ray would have rather not have found out he was a Ewing if it meant causing problems between Jock and Ellie and that he and Donna were the ones to bring them back together.
