Character Discussion - Pamela Barnes Ewing

I always found Pam an interesting and sympathetic character. She was always caught in the middle of the Barnes-Ewing feud. I think all things considered, she handled it pretty well. What do you guys think about Pam?

Pam was awesome and i love her character still, Victoria Principal played her well, i heard she even took lessons to give her a strong texas accent for the role
and her chemistry with the cast was awesome especially with Patrick Duffy and Larry Hagman

she had some good storylines as well and its a shame how she was written out of the show!

I am one who goes against popular opinion when it comes to Pam. I, honestly, didn't like her all that much.
I thought Victoria Principal was outstanding as Pam, her acting was spot on. It was totally the character. I found Pam weak, whiny and selfish. Like I said, I know others love her, I just never really did.
For me, Sue Ellen was needed more than Pam.

I agree with you,I liked her acting and it was a good fit with bobby, but I never could understand why they made her so whinny when she was a strong character at times, and the whinning just didnt make sense to me,I really liked her in season 9 it was a shame it was all a dream.

I didn't see her as whiny. I thought she was a strong character who tried to cope with an impossible situation as best she could. She tried to put out many fires in the course of the never-ending Barnes-Ewing feud, and the stress took its toll. She tried to be loyal to both Bobby and Cliff, which often tore her apart. She was a loving daughter-in-law to Miss Ellie and was very loyal to her, at times causing conflict in her own marriage. She also tried to help Sue Ellen and she was a wonderful aunt to Lucy. She was the peacemaker in her own family, too, between Cliff, Rebecca and Katherine. I hated the way she left the show and was very sad that VP did not return.

I agree with you on all counts, Ewing 1! (But didn't she drop the Texas accent after a while? That's how I remember it.) VP , IMO, was perfect for the role of Pamela.

Yes, I'm hoping!!!!! JR certainly was (beyond) mean to her, but she held her own with him pretty well, which I think is part of the reason he despised her so much.

    I loved Pamela Barnes.
    Everything about her.
She was so essential to Dallas... that the show was never the same without her.
Dallas was missing a key element without Pam (once Victoria left).

New Dallas seems fine without Pam though. Of course I've had twenty some years to get over Pam being gone.
