The part of Pamela Barnes was initally developed with Linda Evans(Krystal Carrington/Dynasty)in mind?
Mary Frann(JoAnna Loudin/Newhart)was considered for the part of Sue Ellen?
Judith Chapman(Gloria Bardwell/Y&R)was in the running for the role of Pam Ewing?
Steve Kanaly considered leaving the show because,in his opinion,Ray was under developed/underused.When Larry Hagman heard this he came up with the idea of having Ray revealed to be Jock's son.
Susan Howard was only meant to appear on an episode or two but the producers liked her so much they made her a regular.
Barbara Bel Geddes was only nine years older than Larry Hagman.
Larry Hagman is 18 years older than Patrick Duffy.
Linda Gray&Larry Hagman improvised much of Sue Ellen&J.R.'s background scenes in the early episodes. Tptb were so impressed at what they saw they then fleshed out the character of Sue Ellen.
When BBG left the role of Miss Ellie Larry Hagman suggested Mary Martin as a candidate for Miss Ellie.
Rumor has it Robert Foxworth was offered the role of J.R. Ewing.
Rumor also has it when Larry Hagman threatened to leave Dallas Robert Culp was considered as the new J.R. I believe this was around the "Who Shot J.R." time. From what I remember tptb were going to have J.R.'s face bandaged&in need of surgery. When the bandages were removed J.R. would've looked like Bob Culp. This is one to take with a GOS.
Delta Burke was hired to play Katherine Wentworth. Delta had to decline since she was obligated to Filthy Rich.
Victoria Principal didn't know Patrick Duffy was in the shower lol. When Victoria shot the scene it was John Beck/Mark in the shower. In order to keep his return a secret Leonard had Patrick shoot the scene as a soap commericial(Irish Spring I believe I remember hearing)
I'll stop now.
P.S. In the interest of fairness much of this comes from the warehouse I keep all of my(useless?)television trivia in........aka my mind. A couple of the other items I've read online over the years&heard/read in interviews.

"Praise God that Susan Howard was offered a bigger role."
^^^^^^^^^ Donna Krebbs is high on my list of favorite Ewing women(second only to Miss Ellie).Susan Howard was excellent in that role!!
I've read Susan's retired from acting but that hasn't stopped me from wishing&hoping Donna/Susan will make an appearance on new Dallas.
You are correct,Mary Martin was Larry Hagman's mother. She was also Peter Pan lol.

Tracy Scoggins (Monica Colby,Dynasty/The Colby's) played the role of Dianne Kelly a friend of JR's hooker friend Serena in 1983, then, in 1996 & 1998 she played Anita Smithfield in JR Returns and War of the Ewings.
In a later season Brad Pitt aired in at least one episode as Charlies boyfriend.
I love TV Trivia.This is a great thread-thanks DrIvan.
I recall Robert Foxworthy was the original choice to play JR Ewing. (read that right at the time Dallas first aired, in Variety or the Hollywood Reporter, so it's not a rumour). .....But I've never heard that LH wanted his mom to play Miss Ellie! That's really sweet. I remember as a little child loving Mary Martin as Peter Pan!! ....I thought it was so cool when I first learned she was 'Major Nelson's' real mother.

I also clearly remember reading that Mike Connors (MANNIX) had also been offered the role of J.R. Ewing if Hagman hadn't worked out a deal with CBS to return to Dallas after J.R. was shot.
As a Mannix fan, I was hoping that he would take on another role on DALLAS when Larry's deal came together.
SIDENOTE: If would have been nice if fauxMiss Ellie had appeared during the same season that Bobby had 'died'. Then she too could have been part of Pamela's dream season!!!!
Thanks Tulip for the confirmation about Robert. I've tried over the years to picture him as J.R. but for the life of me he'll always be Chase Gioberti to me.
I want to say I heard someone on a talk show(daytime variety talk I think)mention Larry had suggested Mary Martin as Miss Ellie. At the time I didn't get the impression it was a serious suggestion though.
I thought it was cool Maj.Nelson's mom was Peter Pan too lol.
Have a wonderful week Tulip!![]()
I have heard that Hunter Tylo was on Dallas. Was she ever and what part did she have? Was she ever in the running to be on Dallas?
I don't remember Tylo being on Dallas. However, I'd check imdb.com or wikipedia to find out if she ever was on the show.
Thanks, I didn't think so - but in one of her profiles she has Dallas listed along with the Nanny and a few more random shows. Since it stated that I just wanted to be sure.
^^^ Hunter Tylo arrived on AMC shortly after Jenny was killed in a jetski accident.
If I recall correctly.... Hunter's character was involved with Greg (of AMC's famous Greg and Jenny).
While on AMC... Hunter Tylo was a blonde.
Later when she arrived on B&B as a brunette... I was like "Who is that? Oh she was a blonde on AMC."
I don't think Hunter was on AMC more than a year. AMC fans couldn't accept anyone with Greg... it was too soon after Jenny.
Actress Michelle Johnson played two characters in Dallas as well
she played Rhonda Cummings in one episode in 1985
and then in 1998 in Dallas : The War of the Ewings she played Jennifer Jantzen![]()
This is ringing a bell with me Ranger. I was one of those fans that couldn't(wouldn't really)accept anyone with Greg other than Jenny. Poor Greg....I guess we die hards wanted him to join the monastery after Jenny died.
For some reason I was remembering Hunter being with Cliff. Thanks Ranger.

Thanks about the line, even if it was mispelled. I should've used spell check on that one lol.
Robin McCall. That's it! Tell me this was Hunter on AMC at the same time as her ex-husband? I think Michael's Matt came on after(during?)the time Cliff was presumed dead?
I mentioned this in another thread, however, I thought I'd put it in here too....
In Conundrum, the series finale, Bobby had a wife... Named Annie. Kinda ironic, don't you think!
Bobby was pretty much a loser in Conundrum and hadn't paid his alimony or child support. Bobby was a dead beat dad so, Ann had every right to want the support.
Gotta remember the whole premise of the Conundrum episode was what would certain people be like if JR had never existed. Bobby certainly wasn't the Bobby we loved for 15 seasons now.
Bobby also went to his brother, Jason (who only existed if JR didn't) and asked for money. Jason was a jerk and said no.
I knew some of this and didn't know other stuff very interesting thread![]()
Thank you!![]()
