I was surprised that Douglas Channing was alive in the beginning episodes. I just assumed he had died before the series began.
Really needs some Melissa and Richard, thankfully they are coming soon!
Finally ordered DVD set of entire first season of Falcon Crest....and watched first two episodes last night.....
Love how they started the show off with Jason Gioberti's death..and how Jason and Angela's father's will stipulated that the first of his children to die had to die of natural causes for the codicil to take effect that it reverted to the original division of lands...so Chase only inherited 50 acres of the land.......which was, of course, Angela's manipulation so that she didn't lose more of the land since Jason's death was, in effect, Emma's fault......
Watching the original Vickie Gioberti, Jamie Rose, ....she did, to me, look much older than the 17 years she was supposed to be.....the actress, born in 1959, was 22 when the show premiered in 1981...and I know that's common, to have early 20's people playing teens, but she just looked and carried herself much older than a 17 year old girl....
I'm also intrigued that Emma was at first just a 'guest star' on the show, not part of the main billed cast....and of course there's no Melissa Agretti and Richard Channing as of yet......
I also love that there was a line where Vickie refers to the family as 'The Waltons'.....considering that the show was created by Earl Hamner, Jr. - who also created 'The Waltons'
I was surprised that Douglas Channing was alive in the beginning episodes. I just assumed he had died before the series began.
Really needs some Melissa and Richard, thankfully they are coming soon!
That's one thing I find intriguing about the later revelation regarding Richard.....
Douglas and Angela shared a very congenial post-marriage relationship it seemed....I can't imagine him doing what he did regarding Richard to her.....
Speaking of Richard,Angie,&Douglas,I love the resulting fallout&showdown.
Oh, I thought it was a brilliant move when they made Richard Angela's son....absolutely brilliant...and in retrospect I could definitely see Jacqueline taking him from her....but with the way Douglas was portrayed prior to his death....they seemed very fond of one another.....
I do hope that more than just the first two seasons are released eventually....there are episodes I never saw during the original run and my cable provider didn't carry SoapNet when all the primetime soaps were having a run there, so....it would be nice to catch the entire series eventually....
Making Richard Angie's son was a twist I never saw coming. I certainly never thought Jacqueline would turn out to be his mother. That party scene shocked the heck out of me at the time. Angela's "You B&tch!" line almost knocked me out of my chair. Up until that scene I'd never heard the word on broadcast television.
IA with you about Douglass. They had such a wonderful warm relationship that his affair with Jacqueline was sort of out of left field but I loved the twist. I was sorry Lana Turner didn't return to do more episodes after the Richard reveal. I would have loved seeing Angie&Jackie go at it a bit more.
Falcon Crest was a great show with a terrific cast.
I remember watching the 'YOU BITCH!' line as well and being SHOCKED that they said it on network TV.......
The later reveal was a major surprise for me as well, since it was before the age of internet spoilers...and I just didn't see it coming....
That and the reveal of who killed Carlo Agretti were, to me, the biggest 'surprises' that the FC writers came up with in the run of the show.....
I think my least favorite 'surprise' was the secret son of Julia and the 'Cassandra Wilder' character's father....(can't recall his name right now)....
I hate to beat a dead horse but the "You B&TCH!" moment caused my young jaw to fall to the floor&right down to the basement lol. It shocked me for a few reasons. As I said I'd never heard that word on television before&also because I couldn't believe Angela Channing would use language like that lol.
The Carlo Agretti reveal was something I wouldn't have guessed in a million years. The entire Carlo Agretti murder storyline was simply beautiful! To this day that storyline is one of my all time favortie 'Who dunit murder mystery' storylines in soap history!! Like you say that was before internet spoilers so my friends&I spent many many days during the off season trying to figure who the killer was. Each time I thought I'd figured it out I'd come up with a reason why I had to be wrong lol.
The reveal in the Channing living room was fanfrickintastic!! Only trouble was I spent the entire summer worring who did&didn't get killed lol.
Oh I love Falcon Crest just as much today as I did all those years ago.
P.S. I'd forgotten Julia's other son was Cass Wilder's father. I can't remember her dad's name either. Truth be told there are only two things I clearly remember about Cassandra Wilder's days on Falcon Crest. (1)I thought she was smoking hot!! (2)She had one h&ll of a crazy bitter classy mother lol. For some reason I was wild about Celeste Holm's performance.
Oh man!!......all this talk about Falcon Crest has me longing for the show again. Just when I tell myself I'm cutting back on my spending I now have to buy FC lol.

Dominic Rossini was the husband of Celeste Holm's 'Anna Rossini' and Julia's lover - the affair that produced Father Micheal......
I wish that Celeste Holm had stuck around longer and that Cassandra had owned 2/3 of Falcon Crest longer...rather than the reveal that Anna killed her husband by setting fire to the house and was bat-****e crazy....lol....but I'm a big fan of 'the past coming back to haunt you' storylines.....it's why I liked Dan Fixx when he was introduced......the history there being that Angela paralyzed Dan's mother by hitting her with her car
That's it!! Thank heaven you've a better memory than me. I tried googling for Dominic's name but couldn't come up with anything.
I alwasy thought Celeste Holm would've made a incredibly interesting long term nemesis for JW's Angela. At first I didn't like Anna's backstory but then just kind of went with it. Celeste Holm was quite believable as a nut lol.
As for Dan Fixx's story I never got that one entirely straight. My mother&I always watched Falcon Crest together on Friday nights. I don't think many Friday's passed without me asking mother to explain how it was that Dan knew Angela&what Angela did to his mother. That backstory was a huge fail imo. The best thing about the Dan Fixx story was his sister coming to FC. I had a huge crush on Carly. I've been a fan of MH ever since her Falcon Crest days.
I think the outcome of the Dan Fixx story was a letdown, definitely....I would have preferred a much bigger 'bang' on that one than finding out Dan and Carly were not really related and they ran off to be together in the end.....
Falcon Crest certainly did trot out a slew of CLASSIC actresses over their run...Jane Wyman, Celeste Holm, Leslie Caron, Lana Turner....and I believe Sophia Loren (or perhaps it was Gina Lolabrigida) was part of the show as well....I was only 13 when Falcon Crest premiered, but having been a long-time fan of classic films, I knew at least in part who these women were....and it was wonderful to see them strutting their stuff once again.
It was Gina Lolabrigida though I hear Sophia Loren was being courted to play Francessa. If I remember correctly talks broke down when boke sides couldn't come to terms on money. Word is Sophia Loren wanted too much or at least more than tptb could/would pay. I also seem to remember had Sophia signed Francessa would've been on Falcon Crest for at least 18 or so episodes&producers promised her a role that would rival that of Alexis Colby's.
Imo though FC was in a win win situation having to decide between Sophia or Gina. Both are talented performers and both are OUT OF THIS WORLD goregeous!
You're right about FC&classic actresses.I'll add one more to the list:Kim Novak. I was a little fuzzy about Kit's story but was thrilled having Kim on the show. I was just a young kid but knew each and every one of these women&was familiar with their work. My parents were older so these grande dames were from their hollywood. Falcon Crest has such a classy cast!
P.S. Speaking of Sophia Loren&Alexis Colby I've been hearing, for over 2 decades, that she was considered for the role of Alexis. At the risk of repeating Sophia is a fantastic actress&a drop dead classic beauty but I can't picture her as Alexis. I certainly have a hard time picturing Sophia&Angie Dickinson(as Krystal)splashing around in that lily pond lol.

I forgot about Kim Novak when I made that list. ;0) I loved that soryline, and even more that it was Peter Stavros (Cesar Romero) who was the 'killer' when the reveal came...love it when a 'major' character is revealed as the culprit in a whodunnit rather than some nonsensical throwaway extra they cast to take the fall......
I cannot picture Angie Dickinson as Krystle, nor George Peppard as Blake....or Sophia Loren as Alexis....just like, having watched the original pilot for FC ('The Vintage Years') Clu Gulager and Samantha Egger did nothing for me...and I'm glad they were re-cast with Robert Foxworth and Susan Sullivan.....
I have watched the opening credits sequences on youtube and I laughed seeing how, from year to year, Maggie's credits shot with her turning to the camera quickly, flipping her hair, got more and more contrived, like they filmed a clip specifically with her turning around quickly just for the credits. ;0)

You've a wondeful memory! I'd forgotten that Peter was revealed as the killer. The biggest thing about Kit's story that sticks in my mind was how much Peter loved her even when he found out she was an imposter.
ICAM with about George Peppard. I can't imagine him as Blake Carrington. I can wrap my mind around Angie as Krystal though I think had she been cast Krystal wouldn't have been as soft as Linda Evan's Krystal was. Funny thing is before I'd ever heard AD was considered as Krystal I often thought how nice it would've been to have Angie cast as a relative(sister?)of Krystal's.
As much as I love Sophia Loren&loved Elizabeth Taylor I can't imagine either as our Alexis lol. Both would have fit as far as having a drop dead beautiful woman in the role but I can't imagine they'd have brought the depth to Alexis as Joan Collins did. Speaking of Alexis I've also heard over the years that Jessica Walters was on the short list to play Alexis Morrell Carrington Colby Dexter Rowan Dexter Colby(I think I got that right lol)![]()
I think you caught all her married names, lol.....
I think Joan Collins worked so well as Alexis because she could handle (as an actress) being tough, vulnerable, and sexy all at the same time.....
Whew!! That gal's been marrie so many times that I wasn't sure I'd be able to remember all the names. The silly kid in me always wished there had been a scene where Alexis(or any of the other much married gals on primetime soaps)were on the witness stand&asked their full names. I always laugh when I picture one of them trying to receit them all. "Alexis Morrell Carrington Rowen.....No wait!He came last.Ok,Alexis Morrell Carrington Dexter......Oh forget it!! You can call me Alexis your honor"
Alexis certainly was the 'most married' woman of Dynasty...
On Falcon Crest, it was Angela....Angela Gioberti Channing Erickson Stavros Agretti....
Knots Landing was, I think, Val....Valene Clemens Ewing Ewing Gibson Waleska Ewing...
On Dallas....wow...I think it was Sue Ellen...Sue Ellen Shepard Ewing Ewing Lockridge Ewing (I am assuming she did remarry J.R. a third time in the post-series movies?)
The pilot episode is very similar to what actually aired as the first episode, just with some cast changes and, thankfully, Angela being out of the dreadful gray wig they had her in......
All the things they cut/replaced/revamped were things I disliked about it to begin with, so.....I missed nothing about it even having seen it...
If you can access AOL television, I think the episode is still available there for the pilot of 'The Vintage Years'.......that was the show's original title......thankfully they changed THAT too....;0)
