Maybe this time....

Rating: 3 votes, 5.00 average.

As Sami and E.J. fell into bed together, I couldn’t help but hear Liza Milenni’s voice in my head singing, “Maybe this time….” And, no, it wasn’t Sami singing about E.J. It was me singing about my completely irrational hope that TPTB will finally come through for me and make Ejami a for-real couple. I’m optimistic that this time….maybe this time….will be different. Here’s why:

1. E.J. has mourned the loss of three children.
Okay, to technically Grace wasn’t his daughter. But go back and watch the scene of E.J. in the morgue and tell me that his grief wasn’t real. Additionally, Nicole and E.J. tragically lost two pregnancies. E.J. is all-too-familiar with the idea of wasted time. He hadn’t had those experiences six years ago.

2. Eileen Davidson works here now.
Just to add one more reason to celebrate Eileen’s return, there at least exists the possibility that Susan could show up as well. And, that would remind us all that E.J. does have another parent. And as terrible as it was, the rape wasn’t the worst thing to happen between Sami and E.J. It was the fact that Stefano had so much control over E.J. that Stefano could convince E.J. to rape Sami. I’m completely okay with E.J. being a villain from time to time. But he’s not the next Andre, created for the sole purpose of being a good DiMera soldier. He’s a much more complex character. It wouldn’t hurt for Susan to remind us of that.

3. E.J. actually is the right guy for Sami Brady.
Don’t get me wrong, Rafe was the right guy for Sami Hernandez. And, Lucas was the right one for Sami Roberts. But, I’ve always wanted a dude for Sami Brady. She’s the one I root for. And though both Lucas and Brandon (yup, still giving Mr. Walker some cred’) showed glimmers of it before, there hasn’t been a fella who managed to simultaneously see Sami as a grown-ass woman while remaining aware of the stank of his own dirty laundry...until E.J. He sees her the way we see her -- a tragically flawed anti-hero who doesn’t need to apologize for her spunk. And NBC posted a video declaring February "The Month of Sami." I find it hard to believe that it's a coincidence that DAYS just happened to pick the month that Ejami got together to launch a campaign aimed specifically at Sami fans.

4. The fans made this pair important to DAYS ratings
The sole reason that this pair is even viable is 100% because of the fans. That’s not to slight the enchanting chemistry between Alison Sweeney and James Scott. Those two come correct (as the kids say) when time for their scenes. But as we saw with the grief sex and the aftermath of the DAYSaster, Ejami fans can drive up ratings. Even the very diplomatic Alison Sweeney commented on the tenacity of the Ejami fans on her blog.
Ejami fans are hard to ignore.

I should point out that Rafe is a perfectly great character outside of Sami. So, why not give Rafe fans some respect and release their fella from Safe as well? Pleasing multiple fan bases at once can surely help ratings.
