Alice Horton: How to Protect the Legacy

I think I can speak for all fans when I say, “Quit screwing with our Gran!” For the record, I think that TPTB had their hearts in the right place by wanting to work Alice into the current storylines. On paper, it’s a great idea and I like that they are involving Bo, Hope, Jennifer, and now Austin in the mix. But, they have to tread so lightly and be careful not to rewrite history in a way that makes Alice look anything less than pristine.

Unfortunately, they are failing miserably. First, we had to swallow the idea that Alice knew about Maggie's child and didn't tell Maggie. And, now the clues are suggesting that Stefano was blackmailing Alice over a baby that is part Horton and part DiMera.

If there is any way to do a quick rewrite and save this storyline, I hope the truth is that Alice is actually the one with the upper hand here.

What if careful examination of DiMera bank records (which may be open since EJ is a political candidate) revealed that Stefano was making the exact same donation to a third party? What if there is an orphanage in Stefano’s hometown, Italy that had been used as a front for money laundering, but when Alice found out, she forced Stefano to go legit or risk losing his international reputation? He must pay a huge sum of money each month to keep the orphanage up and running.

Because Alice is such a cool chick, she’s been donating her own money to help the kids. She told only Tom all these years because she didn’t want all of those Italian orphans to be out of a place to stay. Oh, and Jennifer recognizes the baby because she did a story on European orphans while she lived in London.

I don't care what the explanation is. This is one of those rare times where audiences want to believe something so bad that we'll take almost anything. We just don't want to see Alice dragged through the mud when she's not here to defend herself!

My thoughts are that we know absolutely nothing but there's a ton of a lot of speculating.

In the end, I'm sure Alice's halo will stay intact.
