My 'Grumpy Smurf' view of Valentine's Day

I think Valentine's Day is so dumb. I feel bad for people who don't have a 'significant other' who then have to watch all the commercialism hoopla over a stupid non-holiday! It puts lame pressure on men (and maybe women too). Grade school kids should not have to worry about giving out Valentine's. (Ever see the Charlie Brown special where he took a suitcase to school to bring all his Valentine cards home in and he didn't get one?!)

Couples have anniversaries they can celebrate.

At this point you may be thinking I am a lonely old cat person (avatar) who is bitter about being skipped for Valentine's Day. That is not the case. I have been with my husband for many years and he usually gives me something for Valentine's Day. This year it was a package of fancy MM's (which trust me I don't need) but it was something to acknowledge the day. A couple years ago he gave me a pair of amethyst earrings (that was a nice surprise!). Anyway, he knows how I feel about Valentine's Day and I honestly wouldn't care if he didn't do anything.

IMO Valentine's Day=

i just think its a day to remind ourselves that we need to appreciate the ones we love. whether it be our significant other, our parents, children, or friends. I dont need gifts, but a "i love you" will make me happy

    ok chocolates are good too!

I did mail Valentine's Day cards to my Grandma who lost her husband a year ago, a single friend and my in-laws. I also made cookies and cards for my family. I try to show my affection, appreciation, and love to my close family and friends year round, not just one day in February. I understand what you are saying and it is a nice sentiment.

I am a lonely old cat person! LOL!! Well actually I'm only 29, so not too old, but considering my best friend is getting married this year, and everyone else I know are starting that new phase of their lives, I kinda do feel old. Behind the times I guess!

And I love cats! They are the best animals in the world. I only have one because - being lonely and old - I live with my parents and they won't allow me to get anymore, but I would if I could!!

So yah, Valentine's Day sucks, but I think if I did have a significant other, I'd kinda like it a bit more.

You aren't the only one who hates Valentine's Day. Personally, I see it as an excuse to buy your significant all the chocolate they can eat so that they can dump you months later for making them morbidly obese.

But, hey...that's just my take. LOL!

Padfoot~~You are not old!!! I am older than you. Age is just a number, it's how you feel that counts! (At least that's what I keep telling myself! ) Age, aging, time, and time FLYING BY is pretty mind boggling though!

GCWhitewash~~I have never liked Valentine's Day, it seems pointless and commercial IMO. I do little things for family and friends so I'm not a "Valentine's Day scrooge" but I still think it's a stupid non-holiday.
