View Full Version : How to post spoilers (and keep spoilers out of non-spoiler threads)
Popforbreakfast
09-03-2009, 06:48 PM
Just a brief note about this, as we've had a rash of problems lately with spoilers popping up in non-spoiler threads. :)
- please don't explain a plot point in a non-spoiler thread by revealing a spoiler.
- soapcentral.com's policy on spoilers is that spoilers must be discussed in marked spoiler threads only. We typically have several running at a time - please look in these threads before posting a new spoiler to make sure it's not already posted. Chances are, if it's a hot spoiler and it's been out for more than a couple of hours, someone beat you to it. :)
- We used to "stick" all the weekly spoiler threads, but with our latest - specifically, that brilliant red SPOILER prefix, we don't need to rely on that any longer, and most spoiler threads will float on the board.
- We usually have general spoiler threads for undated spoilers; and always have weekly spoiler threads for the current week, the next week, and sometimes the week after that; Canadian day ahead threads (because Canada sees the show the day before the US sees it, but this site is a US based site and follows the US schedule); and spoiler threads on specific topics . We prefer to have the majority of spoilers in the main threads (such as, the weekly threads), because if we have a unique thread for every spoiler topic possible, the board would be overwhelmed with spoiler topics. Please don't be offended if the moderation team merges a spoiler topic into one of the general spoiler threads.
- Please place all Canadian day ahead topics in the Canadian day ahead thread. We're sorry, but we can't have a separate thread for each.
Thank you for reading this :)

I really hate to do this, guys, but because I've removed so many spoilers from non-spoiler threads from so many different posters over the last couple of days, I'm asking you to please bear with me and sign off briefly by replying in this thread that you've read the above post on proper spoiler posting.
I don't need anyone to say "sorry" - please consider yourselves forgiven :), I understand that now and then, the heat of the moment takes over.
I just want to know that you're reminded about the rule. :)
Thanks!
ETA - I really, really regret the "ads" for this spoiler sticky I've placed in several threads, but I'm so concerned for the spoiler avoiders I felt it was necessary. It's just grown increasingly urgent to try to stop all the uncloaked spoilers appearing in various threads. Thanks for understanding!

Gotcha.
Pop, one thing I've noticed though.
Sometimes the title of the thread is a spoiler in itself. Sometimes obvious, sometimes a little more subtle.
Most recent example I've seen is
SPOILER Petition for [ ... ].
Most people know why actor petitions are circulated so the titles kind of a giveaway .

That thread disappeared as soon as I logged on this morning. :)
Because we can't be on the board 100% of the time, please use the RPP system to report problems like that, and if something is truly egregious, you might be able to contact one of the super mods on another board if you see they're around.

Hi Lindabird3672 -
Speculation is fine, as long as it's not spec related to a spoiler. Message boards exist for speculation :) - on this site, we divide it by putting speculation on spoilers (what we know will happen) into specific marked threads, and speculation about what has already happened into general conversation.
:)

Okay. I am pretty good at speculation but I will be more careful. Thank you.
