I love Donna Reed! Why would they fire her over the other actress. I wish she could have stayed on as the matriarch!

Donna Reed only filled in for a short time, she was not THE Miss Ellie. She was not believable to me and I never enjoyed watching her as the ORiginal Miss Ellie was the one and only.

I think Barbara Bel Geddes was ill in real life, but returned when she recovered. Kind of like Jane Wyman in the FALCON CREST finale!

Yes, Donna Reed took over for a season when Barbara Bel Geddes had to leave for personal reasons......I never liked her as Ellie....to me she was too 'light' in her mannerisms and her voice too 'whispery' to be believable as Ellie Ewing.

I was very happy when Barbara Bel Geddes returned to her role.

I think Barbara Bel Geddes was ill in real life, but returned when she recovered. Kind of like Jane Wyman in the FALCON CREST finale! I thought it had to do w/ money. I know that DR sued for wrongful termination.

Barbara had a quadruple bypass surgery in the 83 year and missed one third of the show being written out . In the following year, she was still recovering so they brought in Dull Donna . Barbara died in 2005. She had also had breast cancer in late 70's, which was written into show.

I may be in the minority, but I always thought Donna Reed did a fine job during her time on Dallas. Of course no one could ever really replace Barbara Bel Geddes, but I thought Donna Reed held her own. But I was very happy to have Barbara back the following season.

DR was fine but BBG was the original, and things seemed back to normal once she came back, as normal as they could be on this zany show!:D

I agree with you 100% Jagger1966. :) Jagger1966, I thought it was soo horrible how Donna Reed found out she was fired from Dallas through a tabloid when she was on vacation with her husband. %( The season that Donna Reed is Miss Ellie on Dallas is one of my favoriter seasons of Dallas becuase because Bobby and Pam are reunited at the end of the season. :)

Donna Reed was ok in the acting, she was a very Proper Miss Ellie. She did good for the roll, but was opposite of the person we had come to know. I hated that the lady took sick and dies from heartbreak about the show. She did do fine, and I wish she could have known the people that did like her and nothing personal toward her, but we wanted the origional BBG as Miss Ellie.
