Amen, Dan! I was just on one board and the negativity and slamming of both the Emmy's and those performers who were nominated is just petty and unneccesary. I want to send out a big congrats to everybody who was nominated. There's nobody on the list that doesn't deserve to be there - and trivializing both the awards and the performers doesn't reflect badly on anybody but those making the disparaging comments. Everyone who is nominated should be proud of both their show and their personal achievements. Well Done and Congratulations!

I just read the list of nominees and I'm completely shocked--the Academy actually did a good job this year:o:o:o
After how ridiculous and disappointing the last couple of years were, I'm SO GLAD that many of the nominees actually deserved it this year.....I'm SO EXCITED about the Best Supporting Actress category.....I love all the nominees....MCE was brilliant as Annie going bonkers, Bree Williamson FINALLY gets recognized for her great work last year, Julie Pinson was wonderful as Janet on ATWT and I'm so excited that my Tams got nominated for her work as Ava Vitali
although I wasn't a fan of the rape-mance with Todd/Marty on OLTL, the fall-out was nothing short of stunning and Susan H. was brilliant in that role...Jacob Young FINALLY getting recognized for his work as JR is so long overdue (he shoulda won a couple of Emmys for that part by now)
I was also so glad to see Peter Reckell FINALLY get nominated for his work, he was great last year, particularly early in the year when his dad Shawn died and during the cancer s/l....I'm also so excited that Cornelius Smith Jr got recognized for his work as Frankie on AMC, he's seemlessly stepped into that role and has great chem with Debbi Morgan and Darnell Williams....SO THRILLED Debbi got nominated too, she's the class of that show IMO....I'm just glad to see some new blood and not the same Academy favorites....I think they caught alot of flack the last couple of years for what's gone down

Some of the nominations are particularly thrilling: Debbi Morgan for her transcendent acting in early '08 - DM merged her soul with Angie's soul and it was the best acting of the year imo. All 5 of the best actress nominees did phenomenal work! There were three actresses who were not pre-nominated which was disappointing: Robin Strasser, Kimberly McCullough and Allison Sweeney, but the five that made the list were terrific!
I was so happy to see 11 new names on the list! Peter Reckell, Alicia Minshew, Bree Williamson, Bradford Anderson, Kirsten Storms, Melissa Clare Egan - and there are two categories in which there is a guarantee of a first-time winner! (Supporting Actress and Younger Actress). I enjoy that more than seeing even the best of actors winning their 4th, 5th, or 6th emmy.
Disappointed that Tuc Watkins was overlooked once again, but the 5 who are nominated are all terrific, and I'm hoping for a win for Van Hansis, my second choice!
Biggest disappointment: no nomination for Kristin Alderson. I'll be rooting for Kirsten Storms, my second choice. Blake Berris is my choice for younger actor, since Brandon Buddy was not nominated.
But what was up with Best Series?? No nominations for OLTL and Y&R, the two most deserving nominees?? I'll be rooting for AMC.
For the most part, I think the nominations are strong this year. I also love that all 8 shows not only have at least 1 acting nomination, but that this is even true in the Lead acting categories!!
My picks:
Series: AMC
Actor: Peter Reckell, DAYS
Actress: Debbi Morgan, AMC
Supporting Actor: Van Hansis, ATWT
Supporting Actress: Bree Williamson, OLTL
Younger Actor: Blake Berris, DAYS
Younger Actress: Kirsten Storms, GH
Directing Team: AMC
Writing Team: AMC
What's nice is I'd be happy with almost all of the nominees actually winning the award this year!
I still think the nominations should be done by a committee that watches all of the soaps all year long. This would increase the possibility of actors being in their correct categories and also mean that actors who might not come across in emmy reels but do consistently brilliant work would get nominated (read: Kristin Alderson and Allison Sweeney).

Thrilled for Thorsten Kaye, Alicia Minshew (altho' she needed to be in Lead) & Susan Haskell, who so obviously deserved hers, and for many others, but I gotta say that I am very disappointed that Kristen Alderson didn't receive a nom. IDK how she was overlooked- maybe others were much better- but frankly, the birth scenes she did were amazing, espec for someone as young as she is. That was my only complaint. Congrats to all!

I am ecstatic for TK & AM! They are AWESOME!!! AMC has such great talent. Many shows do, but AMC is stacked with it.

I looked at this list and think many were very deserving of their nomination. I'm so happy for DAYS to get some recognition. I hope someone from the show takes something home. Best show and one acting win--I'll be pleased!
Here is who I WANT to win, not necessarily who I think will win.
BEST SHOW: DAYS
LEAD ACTOR: Peter Reckell
LEADER ACTRESS: Debbie Morgan
SUPPORTING ACTOR: Bradford Anderson
SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Bree Williamson
YOUNGER ACTOR: Blake Berris
YOUNGER ACTRESS: Kirsten Storms
As always there are omissions but this is the Daytime Emmys so that's to be expected. BEST news is General Hospital won't win best show but having a writing nod is very unfortunate. Hoping OLTL takes that again this year.

I still say Marcy Rylan and Alley Mills got robbed of a nominations instead of Melissa Claire Egan and Bree Williamson. As did Caitlin Van Zandt and Bonnie Dennison instead of Meredith Hagner and Emily Hawkes. And hello GL was better in 2008 by leaps and bounds than it was in 2007 yet it won in 2007 and wasn't even nominated in 2008? What the deuce?

I just looked at the list and I have to say I am shocked. The Academy actually did a good job this year. It was nice seeing all the soaps getting the recognition they deserve. It was especially nice seeing both AMC and Days leading the pack this time around. For the past couple of years, they have been shut out. I have to say that I am excited this year, and I can't wait to actually watch the telecast.

I was and still am extremely thrilled to see DAYS at the top of the ballot. Among the soaps, DAYS is in second with a total 13 nominations, and that is a true honor for the many individuals on the show, the show in general, and of course, the fans.
Year after year, DAYS fans were forced to sit back and watch Y&R and GH take over the Emmys, being nominated in every category, with the same people EVERY SINGLE YEAR. It became very obvious that the votes were rigged and that regardless of how good or bad the same were, they were dominated the categories like every year.
Finally, DAYS is on top and getting the overdue respect the show so utterly deserves. Let's see how Y&R and GH feels now when they are no longer walking away with hundreds of Emmy nominations and wins year after year and understand how it feels when you don't get nominated. Hey, you can't win 'em all!;)

They got the noms on the strength of the reels that they submitted. They submitted Storm's suicide, and the fall out and funeral after he died.

With all due respect to Tony Geary and I am really just curious but how can an actor who is barely on a show still be considered to be lead actor. This is not to take away from any of Tony's talents..I get he is an icon and has still has "it". I get that.
But to me a lead actor is someone who is on the show 24/7 basically 52 weeks a year, who has to put up with the shlocky scripts as well as the gems that show up often when we least expect it. It is someone who makes the most out of the whole picture.
It is not someone who comes in for a few months here and there..and then has the writers put him in meaningful storylines to make the most of his visits here. It seems awfully skewed to me. If you only have a really fabulous actor for x number of months of the year, you write wonderful scripts to take advantage of his time.
That is totally different than the other actors who have to take the good and the bad and make something of it.
Again, I do not intend this as a bash to Tony Geary. If he only wants to work part of the year and TPTB are willing to deal with that..good for him. He deserves to enjoy his life. I just think he should be in a supporting character category, not a lead character because a lead by definition insinuates he is "there" to lead the others. And there are a lot of other LEAD actors out there who work their butts off ALL year who not getting nominated because TG has one of the spots basically sewn up year after year.
This is not sour grapes on my part..my two favorite AMC actors were nominated this year regardless of Tony's nominations. I just really want to understand how this is fair..

I agree with you Greensocks....I love TG and think he still has tremendous talent, but him submitting his name year after year (he has like 5 or 6 Emmys) takes the spot away from someone else that's been on consistently all-year....TG must know by now that if he submits his name, he'll get nominated--the Academy loves him and he's an all-time talent
I would've liked to have seen Brandon Buddy get nominated, b/c I think he was outstanding this past year on OLTL and had alot of meaty story to sink his teeth into....I feel so sorry for Kristen Aldersson....she seemingly has to hold the Academy voters at gunpoint in order to get a nomination
I'm really looking forward to the Awards this year (I can't remember the last time I said that) and I'm SO GLAD that there's some fresh, new and deserving faces this year

"Days Of Our Lives" nor "All My Children" should not be awarded all the prizes this year.
This was a mediocre year for both shows which will probably get cancelled soon.
But yes, Peter Reckell and Debbie Morgan DO DESERVE TO WIN !!!!!!!!!! For Lead Actor and Actresss.

Days had a great year for the most part. The irland stuff, The Plane crash, The Ava stuff, Bo cancer and Nick going crazy. I know it had some slow moments in the fall before november sweeps but most show do.

You cannot be more wrong. DAYS in 2008 was nothing but fabulous. We saw the return of John Black, Marlena putting Stefano in a coma, the end of the Ireland story by concluding the forbidden Santo & Colleen romance and Brady-DiMera feud and revealing that Santo DiMera and Colleen Brady are John's biological parents, the Plane Crash (that nominated DAYS for Outstanding Drama Series), Grandpa Shawn's death, Bo's pancreas transplant/Chelsea donating her pancreas to her father, the Steve's past with Ava, Kayla and Steve having a baby boy, Theo being diagnosed with autism, Abe & Lexie's marital woes, Daniel & Chelsea's May-December romance, John embracing his DiMera heritage and beginning a dock feud with Philip and the Kiriakis family, Marlena fighting to get John's memory back and later divorcing him, EJ and Sami's fake marriage, Lucas and Chloe beginning a relationship, EJ and Nicole beginning a relationship, Lucas going to jail for shooting EJ, the Salem Inn Blackout, the Hospital Lockdown orchestrated by Stefano after coming out of his coma, Stefano putting Marlena in a coma and her being visited by her dead sister Samantha, Max confronting his biological father Trent Robbins, the murder-mystery of Trent Robbins which later revealed that Nick was the real killer, the return of Brady Black, EJ impregnating both Sami and Nicole, Nicole miscarrying EJ's baby, and so many more!
It is more than obvious that DAYS OF OUR LIVES deserves to be name Outstanding Drama Series of 2009 at the Daytime Emmys because out of all of the soap operas, they were the most exciting, dramatic, and everything that screams, "soap opera!"

In the Lead Actor category, west coast actors have won every single year since 2000, when David Canary of AMC was the winner. (Peter Bergman, Maurice Benard, Tony Geary (3 times), and Christian LeBlanc (twice) are all on west coast soaps).
In the Lead Actress category, CBS has dominated, winning 9 of the last 10 emmys (Erika Slezak was the only ABC winner, for OLTL for her work in 2004; Susan Flannery (3 times), Martha Byrne, Michelle Stafford, Kim Zimmer, Maura West and Jeanne Cooper, all for work on CBS soaps).
AMC hasn't won Best Series since 1997; Days hasn't won since 1978; and B&B has never won...
There is a guarantee of two brand new emmy winners in acting categories: Supporting Actress & Younger Actress!!! It's fun to watch someone who has never won before win for the first time...
For the most part, this is a good selection of nominees. The truth is there are far more than five actors or actresses who are deserving of recognition in the acting categories. If you haven't seen all of the shows consistently then it's impossible to say if someone deserves the recognition or not, imo.
I'm looking forward to the emmys this year!!! (:

There is not a emmy committee, the people who vote for emmy winners are the members of the academy. Which consists of the actors and producers of each daytime show, including the non-drama categories.
I however am happy with the nominations, for once Y&R did not dominate the nominations, cbs did not dominate. True fans of Days have gotten so used to seeing our show ignored over the years that we are in utter shock over the noms. As I am sure Y&R and GH fans are used to seeing their favorite show dominated and win each year that it hurts to see them not more present on the ballot. I am glad the emmy voters are letting someone else share the spotlight.

I think it is good that Days is getting nominations. The best acting preformance I have seen ever was KA when Hope found out that Lexi could not save Zack. The preformace made all the emmy winners and ocsar winners preformaces look like they were from teenage hair models. I know she did not get the nom becuase of Abc and Cbs block voting it made me lose all respect for the emmys now I am starting to respect them again.

I so agree (I had to double check to see if I had written the comment :)
Kristen Alderson frequently CARRIED OLTL during her pregnancy storyline!!
I was mesmerized by the extent she has grown as an actress.
This omission was, for me, a blazing oversight. :-S

Yes, have to agree that the omission of Kristen Alderson is puzzling, although I am not familiar with the work of the all those who were nominated, so, perhaps, not a valid perspective. Nonetheless, KA's work, over such an extended period of time, with so many layers, seemed noteworthy. She certainly "graduated" this year in terms of her depth and the old acting chops.
I certainly look forward to the Emmys and so glad they found a home for the broadcast; the genre needs this recognition at a time when soaps seem to be under pressure to do better, well, not to mention the huge talent that exists in Daytime.

I am REALLY sick of Anthony Geary and Susan Flannery constantly being nominated. They recieve noms even when they are supporting..or just dont have the material. Yet the voters fall for it..and vote them in. The past few years its been back and forth between Geary and Leblanc. Geary won last year..so i assume it is Leblanc's turn again. Its pathetic and makes me sick. If Flannery wins Best Actress for being a supporting player..i will vomit all over the place.:-{ These people winning really irks the hell out of me!!

LEAD ACTRESS
The toss-up: I think the emmy will go to either Jeanne Cooper or Debbi Morgan
Dark horses: Maura West, who deserved to win last year's emmy (for 2007); Susan Haskell, who was in the most controversial storyline of last year
The shocker: if Susan Flannery, who is always excellent, were to win a 5th emmy
LEAD ACTOR
The toss-up: Thorsten Kaye and Christian J. LeBlanc
Dark horse: Peter Reckell, who is actually my pick to win - just don't think he can win in a one-round voting format
The shocker: if Tony Geary were to win a 7th emmy, breaking the 3-way tie (Justin Deas, Erika Slezak, Geary - who have 6 emmys each)
SUPPORTING ACTRESS
The toss-up: Melissa Clare Egan, Alicia Minshew and Bree Williamson
Dark horse: Tamara Braun, who was stunning in her hospital scenes as Ava
The shocker: Julie Pinson, who simply was outclassed and outacted
SUPPORTING ACTOR
The toss-up: Van Hansis and Jacob Young
Dark horses: Vincent Irizarry and Jeff Branson
The shocker: Bradford Anderson, only because comedy doesn't usually win (I think he's wonderful!)
YOUNGER ACTRESS
The toss-up: Julie Marie Berman and Kirsten Storms
The Dark horse: Rachel Melvin
The shockers: Emily O'Brien and esp. Meredith Hagner, way outclassed and outacted
YOUNGER ACTOR
The toss-up: Blake Berris and Cornelius Smith, Jr.
The Dark horse: unfortately, the underused and overappreciated Bryton McClure
The Shocker: Darin Brooks and E. J. Bonilla, esp. Brooks, because Blake Berris was so extraordinary
SERIES
The toss-up: All My Children and Days
The shocker: the "mind candy" that is B&B
My picks remain Debbi Morgan, Peter Reckell, Bree Williamson, Van Hansis, Kirsten Storms, Blake Berris, and AMC for series, directing and writing

I just have to say, that one reason people always say the awards are unfair...is because most of the actors are very good actors. If they weren't, they wouldn't be cast (with a few notable exceptions). So the acting awards are kind of stupid. It's more like they reward the actors for the writing, you know? They punish them when their show is bad and reward them when it's good. It's so unfair.
They ought to make it so that each show has one acting nomination only per category.

Amen to that! But I think they reward actors even when the writing is bad. Case in point: Anthony Geary!
I'm rooting for:
Best Daytime Drama: AMC overall (but B&B submitted the year's best episode: Storm's suicide!).
Best Actor: Thorsten Kaye, with Peter Reckell as a close second!
Best Actress: Susan Haskell, although I'd love to see Debbi Morgan and/or Jeanne Cooper repeat!
Best Supporting Actor: Tough category, they're all deserving...but I'll give Van Hansis the edge!
Best Supporting Actress: Bree Williamson. Best category! Love them all!
Best Younger Actor: Blake Berris
Best Younger Actress: Kirsten Storms

My glorious and well-deserved picks are:
Outstanding Drama Series
Days of our Lives (NBC)
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series
Peter Reckell (Bo Brady, Days of our Lives)
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series

My disclaimer: I'm an ABC soap fan. I have recently started watching some Y&R again and B&B so I can't be that objective yet ;)
Best Actress Debbi Morgan! Yes she's popular but she is a wonderfully talented veteran. I'm so glad she's back! I have always enjoyed Jeanne Cooper too.
Best Supporting Actor - for me at first it was a toss up between Jacob Young (AMC) and Vincent Irizarry (AMC) up until last week. I have to go with Vincent's "dastardly doctor" played to the hilt but with nuances of vulnerability & humanity. I don't know how he does it but he is fantastic. Right up there with David Canary IMO.
Best Supporting Actress- Bree Williamson enough said!
Best Actor - Thorsten Kaye (AMC) He has worked his butt off!
I agree with everyone about Kirsten Alderson she is a good actress to be so young. I was very impressed with her childbirth scenes and every one after that too.

so dissapointed.......AND WHY ARE THEY AIRING ON CW NETWORK??? WHAT ABOUT THE CANADIAN VIEWERS HOW THE HELL ARE WE SUPPOSE TO WATCH IT?????????????????? so pissed......so dissapointed!
They are airing on THe CW this year because NBC opted out of airing them a few years ago because they now only have one soap on the air and both ABC and CBS passed on airing them this year. The CW stepped up to the plate and decided to air them and I for one am glad. Maybe they can breathe new life into the stale awards show.

This is correct, beard_rrp - except that the inside scoop is that CBS pulled out because they wanted to air the show on their "sister" network The CW (some "sister"/The CW is owned by CBS), for the reasons you listed above. They thought that the CW could liven up the broadcast, and it would also be a great event to spark viewership and interest in The CW...which usually appeals to a younger audience.

I was sad to see that noone from the cast of oltl was in the lead cat. That is by far my favorite show and the people on that show deserve to be in the spotlight....but I guess there is always next year........%(
I agree!! Although, I am soo thankful that Bree W. was nom- her work as Jess/Tess/Bess in the baby scandal was fabulous!! The episodes where she came to terms with what Tess/Bess had done and having to give yp Chloe/Hope was by far the absolute best acting I've seen in daytime!!
If she doesn't win- something is very wrong!!

In this thread, please feel free to discuss this year's nominees. Please remember we're celebrating who was nominated, not saying how undeserving someone was.
Where's HIgley's & Co.nomination for best Writer??!:-?:o

It's not there cuz it's not well deserved. Soaps are struggling to maintain and audience and out of that they picked the best nominees they could. Higley isn't nomination worthy yet plus her company has too much drama surrounding it.

God...another 3 weeks left to wait for these damn things! I hope next year we wont be waiting so frickin' long for the telecast. I will also add..that NBC better damn well smart n' up..and televise the show now. Stupid Days has been nominated 2 years in a row with tons of Emmy noms..they better be greatful...and show some respect to the Daytime community.

I am amazed that Tony Geary submitted scenes. THe only scenes I recall where he showed any emotion was when Genie Francis returned and they shared scenes in the cabin and their final good-bye at the airport. Unless he submitted those scens, I can't recall any time that he wasn't swilling some booze. This isn't to slam Tony G--I guess the writers have him do these things but other actors such as THorsten KaY are on their toes acting all the year while TG shows up for a couple of months and Bang--he is nominated again for the lead actor. I find this a little troubling in the fairness of it all.

I hope we don't have to wait this long next year either. I am excited to see the show and am hoping for a few Days wins.

Here are my choices, there are more than one. All are outstanding, it was hard to choose.
OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES
All My Children
Days of our Lives
The Bold and the Beautiful
(happy with any of these to win)
OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR
Thorsten Kaye (Zach Slater, AMC)
Peter Reckell (Bo Brady, DAYS)
Daniel Cosgrove (Bill Lewis, GL)
Anthony Geary (Luke Spencer, GH) & Christian LeBlanc (Michael Baldwin, Y&R) have already won emmy's, it's time for someone else to take home the prize.
OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS
Debbi Morgan (Angie Hubbard, AMC)
Susan Flannery (Stephanie Forrester, B&B)
Susan Flannery is awesome but she's already won a few, it's time Debbi Morgan won won for her outstanding role as Angie on AMC.
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR
Jacob Young (JR Chandler, AMC)
Jacob Young is excellent as JR, it's about time he won an emmy for recognition of his work.
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Melissa Claire Egan (Annie Lavery, AMC)
Alicia Minshew (Kendall Hart, AMC)
Julie Pinson (Janet Ciccone, ATWT)
All three are fabulous, but if I had to pick just one, it would be the talented & sublime MCE, her role as crazy Annie has kept me glued to my TV all year long. She is such a versatile performer. If the other 2 win, they're just as deserving. Hardest category to choose from.
OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTOR
Darin Brooks (Max Brady, DAYS)
Blake Berris (Nick Fallon, DAYS)
Both are great actors but I think Blake has the edge this year with his material of work.
OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTRESS
Rachel Melvin (Chelsea Benson, DAYS)
Kirsten Storms (Maxie Jones, GH)
Rachel Melvin wins my vote, she has matured in the role as Chelsea. Her performance has been nothing but exceptional. Kirsten Storms is great also.
I'm so looking froward to the Daytime Emmys this year, can anyone tell me when & where they will be held?
:clap::clap::clap: to all nominated!!!

^ on the 30th on the CW channell
I think OLTL will be winning supporting actress and writing for the major awards that night. plus about 5 technical. so all in all about 7 emmy wins out of there 11 nominations.

I read soapcentral's emmy predicts and I mostly agree except for the younger actress race. I really don't think Storms has a chance based on her tape. It's between Melvin and Berman. Storms tape was way too short and not effective enough . Berman's tape was great as well as Melvin. Can't believe that most of the panel overlooked that.

The closer we get to airdate the more I find myself wanting & needing for Bree Williamson to win the supporting actress statuette. Fortunately, I like all of the other actresses, esp. Alicia Minshew, but Bree so totally deserves to win.
I'm surprised that Chris LeBlanc got a sweep from the predictors on this site. My gut tells me it's going to be Thorsten Kaye, for no particular reason. Chris is actually my favorite but Peter Reckell is my choice for his work in 2008.
I'm more & more convinced, now that I have read the emmy submissions, that B&B is going to win the Series & Writing awards. OLTL's submission for writing is just insane! What were they thinking? (if they win, I'll have to eat crow!) :]
I hope Van Hansis wins but everybody performed brilliantly in that category.
Predictions:
Series: B&B
Actor: Thorsten Kaye, AMC
Actress: Debbi Morgan, AMC
Supporting Actor: Van Hansis, ATWT
Supporting Actress: Bree Williamson, OLTL
Younger Actor: Cornelius Smith, Jr., AMC
Younger Actress: Kirsten Storms, GH
Directing: AMC
Writing: B&B
Picks:
Series: AMC
Actor: Peter Reckell, DAYS
Actress: Debbi Morgan, AMC
Supporting Actor: Van Hansis, ATWT
Supporting Actress: Bree Williamson, OLTL
Younger Actor: Blake Berris, DAYS
Younger Actress: Kirsten Storms, GH
Directing: AMC
Writing: OLTL
