New GH Viewer with question about NIGHT SHIFT

I just recently started watching GH this past May.
I have been a DAYS fan for years and when I heard Jason Cook (ex-Shawn, DAYS) would be joining the cast and have a story with Kirsten Storms (Maxie; ex-Belle, DAYS) I was intrigued enough to tune in and see if GH was something I could get into.

After a month now of watching GH I am totally hooked! I love it!

I have a question about NIGHT SHIFT tho...
I want to start watching NIGHT SHIFT when it starts airing in July but I'm wondering if I need to see the first season of NS before starting the second season.
I was contemplating renting the first season but if it ties into storylines that were happening on GH a year ago I don't want to get confused.

So my question is..
Does NIGHT SHIFT stand on its own without having to know what is going on on GH?
Would you suggest I watch the 1st season of NIGHT SHIFT before starting the 2nd season this summer?

You will probably enjoy NS2 more if you don't watch NS1. They are probably counting on us to forget some of the details. Like Spinelli already had his first sexual encounter with Nadine's sister.

StefanoVance - hmm... good question. They told us NS would be a stand-alone, however they threw in the cast of NS into GH when NS's first season ended and if you weren't watching both, you were a little lost.

I think it's always good to watch everything if you're interested. Plus, NS ended on a cliff hanger... kind of I think. I mean, they never addressed it on GH and left many fans very confused. I imagined they'd pick it back up in season two, but maybe they were just being stupid and they'll plan on ignoring the ending of NS1. Anyway, I'd suggest you watch it, but don't expect it to answer lots of questions or anything - just watch it for your own reference.

your guess is as good as mine and i watched all of Night Shift. i have no clue where they're going with Night Shift 2 since it appears the only ones returning are Patrick, Robin and Epiphany. plus there were too many inconsistencies between NS1 and GH and most of what went down on Night Shift was brought over to regular GH anyway. NS1 had an ambiguous WTF ending but i don't see that being carried over into the 2nd season. when NS1 ended - patrick and robin were broken up, patrick was pursuing something with leyla, they were hinting at jnr, and the last scene was robin seeing herself as a patient on a gurney opening her eyes like she just woke up from a dream or nightmare. it would be one giant wtf if any of these s/ls continued considering there will be no jason, no leyla and scrubs are pretty much reunited and having a baby.

As much has I hated NS1 and am dreading NS2 I still want to know what the hell the ending of NS1 was all about? Why was Robin seeing herself on a gurney?

Oh well it seems that NS2 will not continue where NS1 ended so yet another dropped s/l by Guza.

As terrible as it could turn out, I'm still hoping they address that gurney scene during NS2. It was ridiculous.

^ that gurney scene was stupid. at the time i thought they were going with the dream/nightmare theory which i see now was giving tiic too much credit for creativity. and then robin started seeing herself as dead on a couple of episodes around the b&w ball. i think that whole s/l was just another idiotic thing taic pulled out of their ass for shock value and nothing more.

Having just started watching, I find Robin and Patrick the most annoying people on the show and I fast-forward through all of their crap (of course that could be due to the fact that all I've seen of them is this ridiculous blogging storyline).

So here's a new question...
If i'm not fan of Robin/Patrick should I just skip out on NS1?
Or will watching it give me a greater appreciation for them?

Patrick flirted with Leyla from the first eppy, Robin was bonding with her ex boyfriend, Jason. They eventually broke up on NS, Patrick hooked up with Leyla that exact same eppy.

Patrick was cold, mean, showed very little love or compassion to Robin, and a down right ass on NS.

NS was the worst thing to ever happen to Scrubs fans.

Besides Scrubs I personally didn't like anything on NS, except for Laniey and Cody who should have been on more.

That's just my personal opinion.

Interesting... Robin & Jason? Hmmm.. I have not seen them in any scenes together since I started watching. Robin kinda bugs me in general but, as I stated earlier, I haven't had the chance to see her in a decent storyline yet as I have only been watching for a month now so I am trying to withhold judgement.
Well I think my curiousity is peaked enough that I will rent NS1 and watch it...

Im a Robin fan and when she isnt around Patrick its just sooo nice and a sweet relief for me, but when she is around Patrick GAH UGH BlAH I cant stand Scrubs all the fighting and blog wars is just beyond stupid :rolleyes:

But when Robin was with Jason WOW and NS was just AWESOME because it showed how much chemistry they still have

J&R had a really beautiful love story The boy with no Past and the girl with no Future :x

You'd be freaking amazed at how sweet and emotional Jason was back then !

Scrubs is the couple name for Patrick and Robin.

NS1 was a nightmare to watch for me...I absolutely hated Patrick in NS ugh...what a jackass...but I don't think anything from NS 1 will transfer to NS 2...so whether or not you watch it I don't think will be too much of a big deal...I know a lot off people are dissuaded from watching NS 2 because of NS 1...

After yesterday's announcement it appears that what happened on NS1 is less important then what happened on GH fifteen years ago.

Robert Scorpio is Robin's spy father. In '92 he was married to Anna (Robin's mother). She was kidnapped and Robert went traipsing after her to save her from their arch nemesis Cesar Faison. It was believe they were killed in a boat explosion until he came back from the dead in 2006. Robin and Robert have had a rocky relationship since his return.

Jagger is the brother of Stone Cates, the guy from whom Robin contracted HIV.

Nightshift went along with GH when in the beginning it didn't. Now seeing that NS 2 will do the same, I have no idea whats going to happen. Just as long as I get my Scrubs fix, I am good.

It really is one of the greatest love stories on GH. Both are such GH staples and the innocence the two had was so amazingly genuine. I remember watching it on You Tube. And if you go back far enough you would see Robin's infatuation with Jason QUARTERMAINE. It was so sweet...it would be corny this day in age but at the time (when I was in high school) it was so sweet. *sigh* Jason and Robin... she's the only girl that he's not so 'duh' around...she knows the REAL Jason.. I miss that.

I don't think watching Night Shift #1 will help you like Patrick and Robin. I hated Night Shift #1 because of the way they had Patrick treating Robin.

Scrubs are the reason I watch GH. I realize that they have been going over the same things time and time again for the past several weeks and that is very annoying.

I wish you could see the entire story line with Patrick and Robin (without Leyla, of course). Their story line was wonderful before TPTB put Leyla into the mix and their story line almost in the gutter. They have slowly put the good back into their relationship except for the annoying pushing and pulling the two did to one another.

If you can find a way to get their story line from General Hospital only, I think you would love the couple. I hated Night Shift#1 but I will certainly be watching Night Shift#2

I would say that you don't need to watch NS1, but it probably wouldn't hurt. It'd give you a little background on some people that occasionally pop on GH like Regina and Leo(pre-jerkiness).

Also, you get a thumbs up for not liking Patrick :D.

Hello im a fellow Days fan from way back (1982) but ive watched GH for almost as long.

No you dont have to watch NS1 to understand whats happening in NS2 but it helps. YOu have to realize that NS1 was meant to be a stand alone show apart from GH but in many posters opinions they totally screwed it up. The only real reason to watch NS1 is to see the JnR interaction. Im a long time Robin fan, from back when she started at age seven, I dont like her with Patrick simply because i dont like Patrick, if and when you watch NS1 you will find many new reasons to hate Patrick.

My suggestion is for you to watch current GH and NS2. Then if you have computer access go the site which may not be named(has many clips of shows etc) and watch some old scenes between Jason and Robin and Robin and Jagger, and Stone and Jagger, and Robin and STone. I know thats a lot but even just a few of those will give you a good idea what frienships and realtionships are in play currently on NS2 with Jagger showing up, and on NS1 between Robin and Jason. YOu also get to see Jason actually show emotion and have some feelings unlike what we see on present day GH.
